Travel Award Submission
Apply for a Travel Award to International Cataract Research Meetings
NFER, along with the Japanese CCRG, will once again sponsor travel awards to assist attendance at the 2023 International Conference on the Lens (ICL). We anticipate that as many as 20 awards may be provided. Most of these are intended for young investigators (students, post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty) and will be in the amount of $2,400. In addition, the Henry Fukui Travel Award will be directed to a senior investigator in the amount of $3,000. Eligible conference attendees are invited to apply for these awards by uploading a copy of their abstract submitted for presentation at the ICL, their CV, and a letter of recommendation from a mentor or colleague, as directed below, before October 1, 2023. All eligible individuals are welcome to apply, however if the number of approved applicants exceeds the number of available awards, priority will be given to those who have not previously received ICL travel awards. Awardees will receive the $2,400 by check or by wire transfer if necessary upon registering for the meeting in Kona. Since the travel awards are intended to provide young investigators with maximal opportunity to meet and interact with the broad lens research community, it is expected that awardees will plan to be in Kona for the duration of the conference (December 10-15, 2023) and will register for the meeting through the ICL registration package which includes lodging at the conference site, the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa. Each awardee will receive their travel award checks at the ICL Registration Desk and must provide copies of their hotel and air travel receipts. These documents are necessary to satisfy requirements of the Internal Revenue Service and ensure that the awards are fully tax free. Arrangements will be made for foreign awardees to cash their checks in Hawaii.
All eligible individuals are welcome to apply, however if the number of approved applicants exceeds the number of available awards, priority will be given to those who have not previously received ICL travel awards.
Several Categories of Travel Grants are available for attending the ICL Meeting:
NFER Young Investigator Travel Awards for junior investigators working in laboratories in the US or in other countries. Two of these awards honor the memory of former colleagues and supporters of the NFER and are intended for US investigators. These are the Frederick Bettelheim Travel Award and the W. Gerald Robison Travel Award.
To apply for a travel award, please upload a Nomination Letter on appropriate letterhead, a CV of the applicant, and a copy of the applicant’s submitted Conference Abstract. Applications will be accepted starting August 1, 2023, and must be received by October 1, 2023.
